The Awaken Clitoral Massage Gel was sent to me by Wicked Sensual Care in exchange for an honest and impartial product review which by no means changes my thoughts on the item.
Another of the exciting products that Wicked Sensual Care (WSC)very kindly sent to me as part of a selection from their fantastic range of sex essentials. For those of my readers who are unaware of WSC and if you hail from the UK it is probable that you might be, they are a superb company created by women who believe in better self care and sex essentials products and many of which have include botanical extracts and are vegan and cruelty free. If you come from Canada or the US you are more than likely to know of the good stuff that WSC have produced.
When I first clapped eyes on the Awaken gel, I must admit I was very sceptical. You see in the past I've tried many clit gels or orgasm gels or whatever fancy name that many of them seem to have and to be honest I've always been disappointed with them. Each time I've just been left with at best a tingly clit or at worst; a horrid burning sensation thanks to the varying amounts of the common active ingredient: Menthol. Now don't get me wrong, Menthol has its health benefits, but I'd prefer that it stay in cough and cold medicine rather than in products designed to be applied to my delicate regions.
Anyway, so when I checked the back of the packaging I was totally surprised to see that there is no Menthol listed as an ingredient in the Awaken gel. I can tell you my clit would've breathed a sigh of relief if it could have. What it does list is extracts of Liquorice Root, Cinnamon Bark, Ginseng Root, Ginkgo Biloba, Raspberry, Damiana and the list goes on. So basically more herbal infusions that your local health food shop.
Aesthetics wise, the gel pen looked simple enough to apply, simply squeeze a pea sized amount onto your finger and apply to your or your partner's clit, massage in and leave for about 2-3 minutes for the gel to get to work. The gel is expected to work for around 20 minutes or so.
Now I will quickly cover the packaging; WSC go to great lengths to make sure that it is known than their products are as ethical and responsible as possible. The Awaken packaging is no different. The front of the card box has its name emblazoned upon it and above that where there is a rounded triangle piece of card there is the WSC brand name and a stylised image of what I'm presuming is mean to be a lotus flower. I could be wrong on this, I'm not a botanist!
On the reverse side of the packaging contains information on the clitoris and why you may need a bit of a helping hand every now and again as well as the health shop ingredients list. There is also some key points that WSC are very proud of (and so they should be) concerning the Awaken gel; its Vegan, Paraben and Glycerin Free, pH Balanced, L-Argenine Free as well as being sex toy and condom safe.
How it Felt
As I outlined above, I went into testing this product rather sceptical, especially as I wasn't sure what to expect as there is no Menthol in this gel. Tentatively I let the soon to be Mr Delights apply the gel and massage it in the first couple of times to allow me to focus on any sensation that I may experience. The very first time we used the Awaken gel, I have to admit that I wasn't quite as in the mood as I would usually have been thanks to the glorious combo of work stress, money worries and the ever present suppression of my sex drive due to my Mirena coil. Talk about an acid test!
So anyway he applied and we waited for the 3 minutes that the instructions tell you and once the few minutes had passed, we revisited my clitoral area with baited breath. The difference was staggering! Where was no sign of any natural lubrication 3 minutes beforehand, there was now loads. It was like this rather unassuming and inoffensive looking gel had somehow kick-started my arousal. How is that even possible? And with none of the irritation that similar "orgasm gels" seem to come with. Needless to say the first few nights, both myself and my OH had some pretty enjoyable sex.
Beyond those first few awe-inspiring trials, we began to use the Awaken gel more regularly for both when I need a "jump start" and to just help things along a bit quicker. What's even better is that after the initial 3 minute wait, you can apply some more to intensify and prolong its effects! Yeah we've been doing that too!
If you're wondering if there has ever been any obvious sensations that I will report back that they are very slight, I have experienced a very gentle warming sensation and have felt a slight rushing sensation which I can only put down to this being where blood flow has increased to the area, making my clitoris engorge. But there has been nothing unpleasant in the slightest occur.
The gel itself is fragrance free which is great if you are very sensitive to smells and odours and for the sake of being thorough, it's also flavourless so if you do go down on your partner or they on you, they're not going to be greeted by some horrid bitter taste.
I would probably say that really the only niggle is that there is Propylene Glycol, so if you know that you are sensitive to this ingredient then you might wish to avoid this product which would be a shame. Obviously if you are allergic to some plants and their extracts then you too might want to give the Awaken gel a miss. Please see below for full ingredients list as taken from WSC's webpage:
Water (Aqua), PEG-32, Propanediol, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Menthoxypropanediol, Vanillyl Butyl Ether, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Bark Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract, Ginko Biloba Leaf Extract, Paeonia Albiflora (Peony) Root Extract, Dioscurea Villosa (Wild Yam) Root Extract, Cimifuga Racemosa (Black Cohosh) Root Extract, Lepidium Meyenii (Maca), Turnera Aphrodisiaca (Damiana) Extract, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Bark Oil, Rebaudioside (Stevia), Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.
Care and Storage
Make sure that the lid stays on the pen and that the nozzle is kept clean. This way no dust or residue can find its way into the body of the pen where the gel is kept. Aside from that, just keep it next to your lubes and things either in a draw or your bedside table. Oh and keep it out of reach of kids, you wouldn't want them to stick it in their eyes!
No matter whether you are like me and struggle to maintain a strong and consistent libido or whether you have no issue in this department, we all could benefit from a bit of Awaken gel in our lives.
The fact that it has so many herbal extracts and very few synthetic ingredients appeals to me as I try to limit the amount of synthetic chemicals that I use every day. The gel is easy to apply and actually does get to work in minutes and you can boost it by applying it for a second time!
I'm only sad to say that it'll be a bit of a mission to find a supplier of it over here in the UK but it does work so well that if needs be I'll buy it from a retailer over in Canada or the US and have it shipped over here. I like it that much!
If you ever need a helping hand before or during your intimate moments whether it is with a partner or just yourself, give the Awaken a whirl see why I'm making such a fuss over it!
