The Sona Cruise was sent to me by Lelo in exchange for an honest and impartial product review which by no means changes my thoughts on the item.
I was a little surprised when one of Lelo's PR reps got in touch with me as I don't often see their products being sent to reviewers. Now I know that Swedish luxury brand Lelo's recent selection in their choice of spokesperson has not been well received by the community and for very good reason and in conjunction with that choice came the less than well designed product, the Hex condom. However I was prepared to give the Sona Cruise a try as it had intrigued me and I thought that perhaps that Lelo were trying to make up for their past cock ups.
So when the Sona Cruise arrived at my door, I rather quickly opened the package up as I was keen to see what this intriguing toy was going to look and feel like. Sadly I have up until now not had the opportunity to try any Lelo toys as they are quite often well over my budget, so I was kinda looking forward to this experience.
The box that the Sona Cruise comes in is in itself very stylish and probably nothing less than people familiar with the brand would expect seeing as Lelo place themselves in the upper regions of the market. The black box has a snake skin-like effect to it with a shed load of info the back in gold writing including a note that it comes with a 1 year warranty and a 10 year guarantee so I suppose there is some piece of mind for you if you were to decide to purchase one. The front of the box is a clear plastic window which is handy if you are viewing this in a bricks and mortar store. The Sona Cruise itself is contained within a high density foam and below this is a textured card insert that lifts out to reveal a USB charging cable, a sachet of Lelo water based lubricant, a black satin drawstring storage bag and the 1 year warranty card. So really after giving it a charge for the recommended 2 hours (of which is only found in the online manual as the small printed version doesn't tell you this) you should be ready to go.
The Sona Cruise itself is made from a single piece of body safe silicone and is available in pink, cerise and of course the black which I received. The back plate of the toy is made from a rose gold coloured piece of ABS plastic that has the Lelo name inscribed to give it an added sense of luxury. The Sona Cruise has a basic interface comprising of 3 buttons allowing you to increase or decrease the intensity (+ / -)or to change the program altogether ( ͜͡ ) which as you can gather looks a bit like a pair of brackets turned sideways. The mouth of the toy is incorporated into the design and cannot be replaced unlike toys of a similar design i.e. the Satisfyer Pro 2.
How it Felt
Now the Sona Cruise is not a usual clit stim toy in that it doesn't vibrate; at least not in the usual sense, it uses sonic pulses and waves; a bit like a speaker does. So after it had been fully charged (the lights had stopped blinking) I switched it on and I must admit I was a bit taken aback; this toy is meant to be "whisper quiet". Er no, it really isn't! It's actually quite noisy and when you make a seal over the mouth it gets even bloody louder! Now the Sona Cruise is meant to kick its motor up a gear so to speak when a seal is made, this is so that power and sensation is not lost when in use but does it have to be so god damn loud?! I couldn't help it, I got my Satisfyer Pro 2 out as that is the closest toy I own to do a comparison and the Sona Cruise makes the Pro 2 seem truly whisper quiet!
To hold, the Sona Cruise is quite comfortable as the curve of the toy does fit quite nicely into your hand, even if you have small chubby hands like mine. However I did note that while the user interface of the buttons seems quite simple, I did have to press the buttons quite firmly for any change to the intensity or program change to take effect. Another curious thing as I fiddled with the Sona Cruise before putting it anywhere near my clit was that no matter which of the 8 patterns of pulsation I selected, it doesn't start of at the lowest intensity which I thought was a bit presumptuous especially as there are people like me who prefer to start off at a lower setting and work their way up.
Anyway the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say, so without further ado, I lubed up a bit with my fave lube (Wicked Sensual Care's Toy Love) and switched on the Sona Cruise and placed it over my clit and HOLY SHIT! The amount of sensation that hit me was ridiculous, I managed to tone down the intensity and I couldn't help but wonder what on earth it would be like on the other patterns of pulsation as this was the steady program! Even though I had dialled the intensity down to the very lowest possible setting I literally orgasmed within 1 minute! No word of a lie!
The orgasm itself came out of nowhere and was probably the most deep and powerful I have had in a very long time. However I was very disappointed. You may all be wondering "What the hell is wrong with you? That sounds awesome!" and if you like going from zero to climax in no time at all then that's great. Whatever floats your goat. I however don't like it. At all. I prefer at least a couple of minutes build up so I can sense when I am about to crest over into climax. Needless to say I was pissed as not only had I been deprived of a nice build up but the Sona Cruise left my clit so sensitive there was no way I was going to be able to use anything else anytime soon after. And I have to report that no matter which pattern I tried whether it was the oscillating program or the "song" as I call it; the result was the same.
So over the next few tests I tried with the OH so he could control the placement of the Sona Cruise and we tried hovering the mouth just over my clit so it was kinda blowing raspberries at it, but this did absolutely nothing for me in that aspect. We have taken to using the Sona Cruise as a way of inducing final, incredibly powerful orgasms as a final push when edging me, but this is its main use for me now. It's sadly just too damn powerful, to be used alone.
Care and Storage
The Lelo Sona Cruise is made of high quality silicone so its really easy to look after, you can keep it in the drawstring bag it comes in or keep it in a box with your other silicone toys. Cleaning is a doddle too, I simply wash it before and after with antibacterial sex toys cleaner, allow for a couple of minutes and then rinse off and allow to air dry.
If you love super quick, very powerful and deep orgasms then this should be right up your alley. I'm still a bit stunned that this had me climax in under a minute. It's fairly easy to use but I would recommend having the telly or some music on as its not quiet in the slightest!
It's made from body safe silicone and as it is USB rechargeable, there is no faffing around with insertable batteries, which is a plus point. Sadly the Lelo Sona just doesn't suit my body and its preferences as I enjoy a longer, built up orgasm rather than an explosive one!
Hey ho, each to their own I suppose!
If you're after serious stimulation in a short amount of time, you'll love it.
